My Journey

I didn’t choose this path—but I’ve walked it for over 25 years.

As a father of children with autism, and later navigating the added challenge of an eating disorder, my life has been shaped by experiences that most people only read about. This journey has taken me into therapy rooms, treatment centers, school meetings, and countless moments at home where real life happens—messy, exhausting, and deeply meaningful.

At the same time, I’ve spent my professional life in special education—working with students, families, and systems that don’t always meet people where they are. I’ve seen the gap between what families are told should work… and what actually works in real life.

And if you’re in a rural community, that gap can feel even wider.

Fewer resources. Longer waits. Less support. That’s why I created Rural Special Needs Dad.

This isn’t just a website or a channel—it’s a place built from lived experience. A place where I share what I’ve learned as a dad, an educator, and someone who’s been in the trenches. You’ll find practical strategies, honest conversations, and faith-based encouragement—because sometimes what we need most isn’t perfection… it’s someone who understands.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support and equip rural families raising children with autism and special needs by providing practical tools, real-life strategies, and faith-based encouragement.

We exist to bridge the gap between professional knowledge and everyday life—offering guidance that is honest, usable, and rooted in lived experience.

Through resources, stories, and community, we aim to help parents feel confident, supported, and never alone on this journey.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a trusted, faith-centered community where rural families raising children with special needs feel supported, equipped, and empowered.

We strive to be a place where parents find not only practical guidance, but also hope, connection, and the confidence to navigate their unique journey—knowing they are not alone.
